In September 2023, I started a freelance contract role with Game Academy, after graduating from their course in April 2023.
This is a Game Skills Industry Bootcamp course, allowing gamers to use skills they already have as well as learning new skills to help them in to the games industry. In gaining this role, I became a success story myself!
I helped to welcome the October, November and December Cohorts for the course, and was responsible for assisting with sessions and fostering the community.
I have been involved in the Community Ambassador/Community Management space for nearly ten years, starting with Nintendo and running various community events during the 3DS/Wii U era of those games.
As part of this, I ran a series of tournaments and worked with Nintendo directly on how to grow the brand.
I then branched out in to Community Ambassador roles for mobile titles with various studios and have worked to make each game I am involved in a success.
Due to the volunteer work done with Niantic, as part of the Niantic Wayfarer program, I was selected following a successful application as a Niantic Wayfarer Ambassador for 2023. As a Niantic Wayfarer Ambassador I support the Wayfarer Community’s Mission and Vision by collaborating with the Community Manager and representing the voice of the community, which involves taking feedback from the community in various forms (email, forum posts, Discord etc.) and places and discussing this with Niantic to ensure a better user experience.
I am an active member in several Niantic spaces (both official and fan-created) and work to aid in making these spaces safe, welcoming, and fun to be a part of. One of the ways in which I do this is to share Niantic-related Futurama memes, which are always well received.
Within this role, I act as a go between with Ludia and the players of the game, Dragons: Rise of Berk. I discuss user feedback with the Community Specialist team, as well as sharing my own ideas either in text format or via voice calls.
I also work with the Community Specialist team at Ludia, sharing important updates to the game across social media and relevant channels, and promote the game to users & ensure the community (outside of Ludia’s official channels) is engaged and up to date with the latest on the game.
As the founder of StreetPass Leicester, I worked with Nintendo UK, under the StreetPass UK brand, to organise events for people to come together and play Nintendo 3DS, Wii and Wii U titles.
This was sponsored by Nintendo, who provided funding and prizes. In addition, I ran and organised monthly events for a group of 100+ members. This also involved doing national tournaments and ensuring the entrants for my group had relevant travel and accommodation.
Within this role, I acted as a “go between” with Jam City and the players of the game, Futurama: Worlds of Tomorrow. This involved discussing user feedback with the Community Specialist team, as well as sharing my own ideas either in text format or Discord calls. Part of this involved running unofficial Player Surveys and reporting back those results.
This also involved moderating the r/FuturamaWOTgame subreddit and it's linked Discord.
I also worked with the Community Specialist team at Jam City, sharing important updates to the game across social media and relevant channels, and promoted the game to users & ensured the community (outside of Jam City's official channels) is engaged and up to date with the latest on the game.
In running the subreddit, as a Community Ambassador, I managed to maintain between 3-5k monthly views by creating engaging content in the form of memes & polls, even without new game content coming.
I continued this until the game closed down in April 2023. In March 2023, I received a personal message of thanks for the work done from the Futurama: Worlds of Community Manger in the format of the show and it's community.
Similarly to the role with the Futurama title, I worked with the Jam City Community Management team, as well as having a direct line to the development team.
After taking over the r/familyguythegame subreddit, I discussed automating event feedback posts with one of the developers to allow them to view how the events had been perceived by almost 5,000 members of the subreddit in order to allow for new features to be created and for the game to be balanced and have worked on growing the community.
